The long shadow of childhood cancer: a qualitative study on insurance hardship among survivors of childhood cancer

Abstract Background The long-term consequences of childhood cancer have received increasing attention due to the growing number survivors over past decades. However, insurance hardships are mostly unknown. This study explored qualitatively, in a sample (CCS), (i) experiences and needs CCS living Switzerland with special focus on related insurance; (ii) views law experts experience cancer. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted 28 3 (one legal expert, two experts). Data was analysed using qualitative content analysis. Results Three key themes emerged from CCS: 1) insurance, 2) perception discrimination, 3) barriers for support. interviewed provided further detailed clarification CCS’ concerns.
